Kenyan lawmaker, Hon. Johana Ng’ero, died from a helicopter crash on Saturday at about 5pm. The crash occurred around the hills of Nandi County, in the Western part of the country, killing at least five other people. The 54-year-old lawmaker, who was serving his third term in office as a legislator, was only re-elected in 2022 for his third term on the ticket of Kenya’s ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The crash, which occurred moments after the helicopter took off, killed all six occupants. An initial reaction by the police blamed the sad incident on bad weather. However, Police Chief Samuel Mukuusi reiterated that further investigations are on the way.
Reacting to the incident, the Speaker of Kenya’s Parliament, Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang’ula has extolled the late lawmaker’s virtue, describing him as “a committed servant of the people and devoted legislator.”
