The President of Ghana, John Mahama, has called for a clear-cut law to criminalize the demand for sex in exchange for a job. Speaking during the Resetting Ghana Tour in Adweso, Koforidua, in a town hall, the president regretted that the demand for sex before a job is offered has reached a concerning level requiring strict legislative action to address.

In his address, Mr. Mahama condemned the abuse of privileged positions by those who sexually exploit the weak and vulnerable people seeking job opportunities. According to President Mahama, “It is deeply troubling that some people would abuse their positions to demand inappropriate relationships before offering employment. This is unacceptable and must be stopped through firm legal measures.”

Mr. Mahama also spoke on gender equality, assuring that his government would implement the Affirmation Action Law and that by the year 2028, men and women appointed to public offices in Ghana will be equal.
