President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia has taken the oath of office for his second term of five years. The President, who was first elected in 2021, was re-elected with over 60% of the votes cast in last month’s presidential election in Zambia.

The swearing-in ceremony, which took place at the Heroes Stadium, Lusaka, Zambia’s capital, had thousands of citizens in attendance. In his address, President Hakainde noted that in his first term in office, he worked to lay the foundation for stability. He then assured that in his second term, he would work to rebuild the economy. “Our first term was about restoring stability and laying the foundation. The next chapter is about growing our economy, creating jobs and opportunities, strengthening our communities, and ensuring that progress reaches every household”, the President said.

The President also called for collective responsibility, asking Zambians to join hands and build their country, arguing that “Government cannot build Zambia alone.”

Moreover, in his address, President Hakainde called on political leaders to unite as one people, pointing out that the election was over and that it was time to come together as one people to move the country forward.
