The President of Kenya, Dr. William Ruto, joined the 2026 G7 Summit hosted by the President of France, Emanuel Macron, and being held at Evian-les-Bains, France. The summit is being attended by leaders of the Group of 7 member states, which include the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Italy. The Prime Minister of India and President of Ukraine were also in attendance, among other global institution leaders.  The group, an influential and powerful economic and political forum, was established in 1973.

This year, the presence of Kenyan President William Ruto in a gathering of the leaders of the most powerful countries in the world speaks to Kenya’s growing influence as an emerging African powerhouse in political and economic leadership. Only a few weeks ago, France and Kenya co-hosted the African forward summit in Nairobi, Kenya, which was well-attended by African leaders.

At the 2026 G7 Summit, Mr. William Ruto was the only African leader in attendance, and he participated in all the relevant sessions where the group discussed global affairs, including the Ukrainian-Russian war, among others.

At the ongoing summit, William Ruto took the time to have engaging moments with global leaders, including the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, the President of the European Union, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of the World Bank Group, Ajay Banga, the German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, among other global leaders.

With this, Kenya is actively positioning itself as an African leader among the comity of nations.
