The Brookstone School, based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, has emerged as a global academic powerhouse after its student, Oreoluwa Awe, won two awards as the best in English as a second language and best in Nigeria, for the June 2025 International General Certificate of Secondary Education – IGCSE. The award, which was conferred on Oreoluwa, was organized by the British Council Recognition and Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards – BROCLA, and was held over the weekend at the Civic Center in Victoria Island, Lagos.
With the awards, the Brookstone School, Port Harcourt, affirmed its prime position as a serious training ground with global learning exposure to students.
Reacting, the Principal of the School, Dr. Bashiru Sadiku, noted that the awards highlight the school’s commitment to excellence and indicate the quality of work put into teaching and learning at the Brookstone School. “Oreoluwa’s recognition at both global and national levels reflects the hard work of our students and teachers, and the supportive environment we foster. We are proud to see our vision of excellence mirrored in such an outstanding result,” Dr. Bashiru said.
Speaking after she received the award, Oreoluwa said she was amazed. She also commended the school, her teachers, and family for their roles. “Winning these awards feels amazing. It shows that all the late nights and hard work really paid off. But I couldn’t have done it without my teachers, my family, and the support I get at Brookstone,” Oreoluwa said. On the part of her father, Engr. Afolabi Awe, he could not be more proud. “Seeing Oreoluwa achieve this level of success fills me with immense pride. It’s proof that with discipline and encouragement, our children can truly excel on the global stage,” Engr. Awe asserts.
The award is an annual recognition organized by the British Council in conjunction with Cambridge International Education.
